I’m not sure how this one snuck past late last year but damn it is a great line-up for one of country music’s more respected songwriters. Prine’s songs are reinterpreted and given new life by a stellar line-up of contemporary artists. It is pretty much a who’s who of current americana. In particular Justin Vernon’s haunting take on Bruised Orange (Chain Of Sorrow), Justin Townes Earle’s trad treatment of Far From Me and Drive-By Truckers rollicking Daddy’s Little Pumpkin stand out as brilliant versions. As far as tribute albums go this is quality from start to finish.
