Irish/Australian songwriter Peter Baxter recently released his new EP The Dark Familiar and tomorrow sees the release of the latest single/ video from it, ‘A Thousand Dreams‘, on Bandcamp, You Tube and streaming services.
‘A Thousand Dreams’ is a re-recording, with some new lyrics, of a song that first appeared on Peter’s 1997 album The Miracle Bell. The emotive drift and sway of the country-tinged song now features a beautiful vocal from Leslie Dowdall, well known in Ireland for her solo success as well as her work as the singer with the acclaimed Irish band In Tua Nua, whose first song ‘Take My Hand’ was written by a teenage Sinead O’Connor.
The song was inspired by the idea that we have so many dreams every night and some people can remember them all vividly. “I can’t,” admits Peter. “However, there was a time I could and that was when I fell in love and wanted to write a song that celebrated that feeling. There’s plenty of songs that are about the break up and the longing etc. so I wanted to try and balance that out,” he explains.
“It is a song I always enjoyed singing live, but found as I have gotten older that some of the lyrics didn’t resonate for me. So I wanted to re-record the song with lyrics that did. Leslie and I have been friends for years and love singing together so knew this song would work with her voice.”
Peter has also announced he’s pressed The Dark Familiar and From Some Remove EPs as a single vinyl LP which is now available to pre-order as a limited edition (100 copies) vinyl release.
