Nixon, released in 2000, was the turning point for the Nashville band led by Kurt Wagner. It was a richly ornate LP that layered soul music on the band’s Americana roots and to these ears it was an exotic, beautiful and utterly immersive record. Now Merge have given it the reissue treatment as the first in a monthly series of reissues to celebrate the label’s 25th anniversary.
The double-CD that includes the original album plus a bonus disc containing White Sessions 1998: How I Met Cat Power, a remastered live solo session Kurt recorded in 1998. The LP is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and includes the CD of bonus material.
