Sydney indie and alternative folk artist Hedy Blaazer is about to release her brand new single ‘2for1 Meal Deal‘ and we’re very pleased to be able to premiere it on PTW, ahead of its release across streaming services tomorrow.

Earlier in 2023, Sydney-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Hedy Blaazer released her single ‘Video Ezy’, a stirring and emotive song draped in country-folk stylings that continued her run of impressive singles. Now she follows it up with the equally compelling and honest ‘2for1 Meal Deal’.

The single is built on jangly acoustic guitar and brisk, shuffling drums, again positioned at the sweet-spot of indie, folk and country music. There’s a playful, dancing quality to Blaazer’s vocal melodies that cleverly contrast and add weight to her emotive and poetic lyrics. 

At the 3/4 mark the song dramatically swells with overblown drums and grand musical textures that amplify the song’s subject matter. Blaazer’s lyrics tumble out via her beautifully distinct Australian accent, reflecting on an unbalanced relationship and the wider conundrum of how to navigate life’s challenges.

“I wrote ‘2for1 Meal Deal’ about giving up on trying to keep a friendship with someone in my life that was pretty one-sided. I was thinking a lot about the similarities and differences between us, and what that person represented to me,” explains Blaazer. “It got me to a very existential place of reflecting on my goals in life and the cost of those goals. Specifically, I was thinking about the tension that exists between being successful and enjoying a simple and easy life.”
