Sierra Ferrell has released a new single today, just days ahead of the release of her new album Trail of Flowers, out this Friday, March 22nd on Rounder Records. Her star has been in the ascent for a couple of years now, with music awards, tours here in Australia (thanks Love Police!) and a growing international audience. This album certainly looks set to catapult her into the upper echelons of the Americana world.
“Wake up again in an old motel, is it somewhere different? I can’t tell. Every set of curtains opens to the open road…”
‘American Dreaming’, the opening song on the new album, is a reflective and nuanced, folk and bluegrass tinged song, that begins with a sparse and intimate feel before swelling into beautiful crashes of steel guitar, banjo, piano, celeste, and backing vocals from Lukas Nelson and Melody Walker.
“Sometimes when you’re working long and hard to try to live that American Dream, you forget what you’re doing it for,” says Ferrell of the song. “In my situation, I end up being out on the road so much that I don’t get to spend a lot of time in my own home, taking care of my cat and dog and watering my plants and cooking meals on my stove. I’m always so excited and thankful to play music for people, but sometimes it feels hard to be gone all the time.”
