Next week (Nov 20th) sees the release of the self-titled fourth album from Victorian folk/blues singer-songwriter Luke Watt and today I’m very pleased to premiere the video for the song ‘In Plain Sight‘.
Luke cites artists such as Chris Whitley, Richard Thompson and Kelly Joe Phelps as influences and you can hear them in his playing and the general dark, ruminative nature of his music. Luke’s finger-style playing in particular caught my ear on this song and the captivating way he leaps between notes, in unison with his voice, in the chorus.
The video clip, by Arlo Dean Cook, perfectly matches the song with its evocative capturing of Luke playing amid dappled sepia and sunlit surrounds.
The album Luke Watt was produced by ARIA award winner Jeff Lang and features the musicians Danny McKenna on drums (C.W. Stoneking, Jeff Lang) and Steve Hadley on bass (Paul Kelly, Tex Perkins).
You can catch Luke launching the new album at the Folk Rhythm and Life Festival in Eldorado, Victoria, Dec 6th – 8th 2024.
