This week saw some great new music hitting the internet with new tracks from Ayleen O’Hanlon, Joshua Seymour and the welcome return of Lucero. We also published reviews of the new and very fine album from The Deslondes of which we said:
Their songs swing and rattle along with real ache and verve, never settling into one groove, always swerving and jumping lanes into another variation of country music.
Other new reviews that have been published online for the various sites we freelance for include the minor return to form from My Morning Jacket and the excellent new LP from Melbourne’s Lost Ragas who play Sydney’s Lazybones Lounge with Jep and Dep Saturday 20th June (our gig of the week). We’ll have a full-length review of their album coming shortly.
At the end of the week the Americana Music Festival announced the rest of the acts that will be appearing at the week-long festival and conference in Nashville in September. You can check out the full list here but some of our favourite artists added to the line-up include Raised By Eagles, The Honeycutters, Willie Watson, Nathaniel Rateliff, Lindi Ortega, Josh Rouse, Jim Lauderdale, Eilen Jewel, Doug Seegers, Daniel Romano and American Aquarium.
This week Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Loretta Lynn, Flaco Jiminez and Asleep At the Wheel were inducted into the second annual Austin City Limits Hall of Fame. Unfortunately Clark fell ill before the show and was unable to see Lyle Lovett and Jason Isbell performing his songs. He was scheduled to be at the ceremony but not perform due to general health issues but his hospitalisation prevented him from attending at all. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Guy.
