All Our Exes Live In Texas have built a strong following in a relatively short time, all before they’ve even released their debut album. The Sydney quartet features Elana Stone, Katie Wight, Hannah Crofts and Georgia Mooney who all combine their vocal folk harmonies with mandolin guitar, ukulele and accordion. Known for their sense of humour and impressive live show, their appearance at Dashville Skyline will no doubt be one of the weekend highlights. On the eve of the inaugural Hunter Valley event Elana Stone kindly took the time to answer our Guide to Dashville Skyline Q&A.
Describe your most recent release.
Our most recent release was the song ‘Sailboat’. It is a ballad written by Georgia Mooney and it will be included on our upcoming debut album. The harmonies are dense and cascading. We had fun in the studio with an omnichord!
How does your live show at a festival differ to a club gig?
Hee hee. I don’t know. We don’t go clubbing very often 😉
Describe your favourite festival experience.
It was our first time performing at the National Folk Festival in Canberra this year. It was a real eye opener! There are jams every night in the ‘session room’ where everyone plays at once, in one room. There are about 300 accordion players in there! It’s awesome.
What is your definition of Americana music?
I guess it’s the folk music of America but it’s a contemporary term that is used to describe such artists as diverse as Bruce Springsteen and Alison Krauss. It’s funny because when I think of ‘Australiana’ I think of Ken Done and John Williamson and koalas that hug your pencil.
What’s your favourite Americana album of 2015 so far?
We love the new Father John Misty record. We also just discovered Nathaniel Rateliff. His new album with band The Night Sweats is killer!
Who are you most looking forward to checking out at Dashville Skyline?
There are so many great artists playing. We love the Green Mohair Suits and Holy Holy. Personally I’m really looking forward to Olympia. I’ve heard her music but never seen her and I think she’s going to be amazing.
What are your musical plans post-Dashville Skyline?
To finish our debut album. We are heading into the studio in October with producer Wayne Connolly. He has produced albums by Boy and Bear, Josh Pyke, The Vines, Silverchair and many more! We’ve got brand new material and we are excited to have a play. Then we will tour it 🙂
