This Sunday Freya Josephine Hollick is heading north from Victoria to preview songs from her forthcoming new LP ‘The Unceremonious Junking Of Me’, out soon on Heart Of The Rat Records.
Hollick is a whimsical folk country singer from the goldfields who sings with a voice of ethereal beauty. A testament to the nightingales of the 20s, 30s and 40s, this songbird is not to be missed. Hollick writes of breathtaking bucolic scenes, and articulates those things about love and loss most of us can scarcely put into words.
Darren Cross (Gerling, Jep & Dep) also has a solo LP (his first) in the can and set for release this September. Cross imbues his songs with cutting commentary on the state of the modern world and the fractured psyche of it’s inhabitants. Blending the intimacy of Nebraska with the emotional connect of Van Zandt, Cross’ songs draw you in and gently shake you with their raw and unfettered honesty.
It all happens at The Midnight Special in Newtown, entry is free and it all kicks off from 6pm. Post to Wire will also be spinning some fine folk and alt-country songs between sets and sips of Sierra Nevada.
