Hillstomp are a due that tear up the folk blues handbook and let the torn pages scatter across the stage in a whirlwind of stomping rhythms, breakneck picking and strumming. They’ve got a new album called Monster Receiver, which is set to be released through Fluff and Gravy Records on October 19th. The LP features guest appearances by Anna Tivel on violin, Erik Clampitt (Hook & Anchor) on pedal steel, and David Lipkind (I Can Lick Any Son of a Bitch in the House) on harmonica, and according to the press release, the record flows seamlessly between grungy folk, garage rock, and tender ballads.
From it, here is the first single, the insistent ‘Hagler’ which sounds like Lee Ranaldo getting loose in the Bayou before the song bursts into a glorious haze of momentary distortion.
