Hayesville caught our ear with this rich and stately vocal sound. He’s a Swedish singer songwriter now based in Cologne, Germany and he counts Songs: Ohia as an influence which instantly makes him a winner in our book. It’s a classic sound that he goes for, quite baroque at times, a gothic Americana of sorts yet vocally there’s some Cohen, David Sylvian, Peter Murphy and Dan Michaelson in his tone and delivery. When we first heard this track, ‘Minor Key’, it reminded us a bit of NZ songwriter Skyscraper Stan.
Hayesville’s new album A Town came out at the start of 2019 and if you like this track you’ll find plenty more of a similar striking quality on it. Hit him up on Bandcamp via the link below or give the album a spin on the usual streaming services.
