Charles Wesley Godwin has an interesting back story. Born and raised in Morgantown in the Appalachian hills, to a coal miner father and schoolteacher mother, he ditched college football and picked up the guitar before discovering he had a knack for playing and songwriting during overseas study in Estonia. Since then he’s shared stages with artists including Shooter Jennings, Tyler Childers and Colter Wall.
His debut album Seneca is set for release on February 15th and as well as two fine tracks that you can find on streaming platforms, he’s also given us the opportunity to share ‘Strawberry Queen’, a song that dances lightly on a sold yet simple backbone of acoustic guitar, shuffling drums and great fiddle playing. It’s a love letter to a girl delivered in a rich and resonant voice that places him somewhere between the aforementioned Tyler and Colter.
