We posted about Swedish songwriter Marlene Oak a few months ago when her song ‘Slip Away’ stopped us in our tracks. That song was an upbeat heart yet melancholic Americana track that was draped in gorgeous guitar and vocal hooks. ‘How Can I Move On’, from her new EP Silver Moon, changes the pace and details/laments a broken relationship with a tender ache via that warm soulful voice that she possesses.
“Before I wrote the title track ‘Silver Moon’, I listened to Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Ella Jenkins, and Leadbelly a lot. You can hear the pain in their voices and there’s a certain darkness to the words that they sing. That’s the feeling that I wanted to convey in ‘Silver Moon’”, Marlene Oak says.
