The enigmatically named Secret Emchy Society from Oakland has a new track out which races along on a quick-shuffle, honky tonk heartbeat as Cindy Emch barrels out the song with high spirits and playful verve.

Emch has been named by the Huffington Post as the ‘First Lady of Queer Country’ and No Depression christened her “Equal parts June Carter Cash, Nick Cave and Murder By Death.” She’s released two albums under her own moniker – Stars Fall Shooting Into Twangsville (2017) and Mark’s Yard (2018) as well as playing in a number of other bands since picking up her first guitar and learning to play via the Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen songbooks at the age of 14.

“At its heart, ‘Everything Was Fine’ is about the call of the open road and the loneliness that can come along with it. Driving hundreds of hours on I-5 over the course of 2019, there are flat tires, the forest is burning 10 feet away from the road I’m driving, people sometimes just drive right off the road – and you just keep going to the next gig. Everything was fine becomes one of those reassuring mantras – even if you don’t always believe it.”

For fans of Buck Owens, Sarah Shook, Dwight Yoakam, Lydia Loveless and Shovels & Rope.
