NEW MUSIC: Henry Conlon – I’m Coming Home

Simplicity done well makes for powerful music and this song from Nashville-based songwriter Henry Conlon grabbed us the second he started singing. One of those voices that sounds both powerful and emotionally wrought at the same time, it reminded me of the dark drama of Townes Van Zandt and more recently, Tyler Childers.

I’m Coming Home‘ first appeared on Conlon’s 2019 album Home, in a full band and bluesy electric form. Here he’s stripped it right back to voice, guitar, piano and a haunting fiddle as he sings about identity, alcoholism, self doubt and perseverance. The original version is worth checking out as well but this raw and heavy take hits the emotional home run.
