In our continued appreciation for the amazing ambient country that has been reaching our ears over the last couple of years, here’s a beautiful instrumental track from The Howard Hughes Suite.
Like Suss, Daniel Lanois, Eli Winter, Chuck Johnson and William Tyler, The Howard Hughes Suite (a solo project for a guitarist from the South West of England) trades in minimal, atmospheric, cosmic country, often characterised by slow motion landscapes and haunting pedal steel. There are meditative qualities to the music but it also evokes starry night skies, wide open vistas and western soundtracks.
With a drummer as a father, a love for the guitar greats, a fascination with the electronic pioneers, a history of playing live, years spent as a session musician, a love of the visual arts though photography and experience with soundtrack work, it was only a matter of time before all these musical ley lines converged into this musical project.
‘Undertow’ comes from his album ‘Smoke From A Future Fire’, out now via Bandcamp.
