Cosmic psychedelic country vibes abound on ‘Stubborn Mule‘, the beautiful new single from Dr Mann that we have the pleasure of premiering on PTW today.
As the guitars chop and stagger, pedal steel wafts along, adding a swirling ambience to the track. Twin vocals complete the intertwined and woven sound of the track as it slowly builds and morphs into a freewheeling highway cruise – part desert, part ocean road – reminiscent of somewhere like Baja Mexico where Dr Mann apparently spent a fair bit of time travelling and surfing pre covid.
“It’s a song in which most of us can relate to, with upfront and honest
lyrics about coming to terms with the realisation of being stubborn and hard-headed in a
relationship at times.”
Dr Mann’s sound draws a line back to late 60’s – 70’s country but you can hear how it has been filtered through as well as modern indie acts such as Girls and psychedelic artists such as Wooden Shjips, Rose City Band and Tobacco City.
Dr Mann is the solo project from Sunshine Coast based artist Danny Mann. ‘Stubborn Mule’, out Dec 15th, is the first single from a forthcoming EP, set to be released on the new country music label Heartsville Records in early 2022.
