“I listened to The Jayhawks for hours and now I’m blue”
Sydney’s Sam Shinazzi, the city’s longtime auteur of indie rock and increasingly alt-country, has released the video clip for his brand new single ‘Closing Time’ which is officially out tomorrow, March 18th.
Featuring the sublime vocals of Katie Brianna, the song is sensitively forlorn, a heart-on-sleeve confessional over a whiskey as the potential end of a relationship circles overhead. According to Shinazzi, “it’s essentially about an ending and not being ready for that ending, yet still recognising it”
The song has a dreamlike drift to it, like a slow and hazy last dance. Brianna is the perfect foil, bringing her world-class approach to melody and melancholy to the song as Jy-Perry Banks’ pedal steel adds the sonic teardrops.
‘Closing Time’, one of Shinazzi’s finest compositions, comes from the songwriter’s sixth album Days I Won’t Forget, due for release on CD, vinyl and digital on April 8th on Stanley Records.
