Melbourne-based Hana Brenecki and guitarist Jessie-Lee Zubkevych are working towards the release of a new album in early 2024 but the good news is they’re already releasing music from it.
First up it’s the stunning single ‘Arrowhead‘ which drifts and sways with a gentle rock ‘n’ roll sashay, draped in heavenly country-soul.
Hana’s voice has that wonderfully lived-in, aching quality, dreamily drifting somewhere between country, soul and the blues as she sings of unexpectedly tumbling head over heels for someone out of the blue, and the rearrangement of internal structures to allow that person in. Next to her, Jessie-Lee’s consummate guitar playing shimmers and twangs, jangles and soars. From gentle strumming to a vibrant electric solo it’s a showcase of how to make a mark as a player and still serve the song.
The video clip, which we’re very pleased to be able to premiere today, was filmed and edited by Chris Lichti and finds the group bathed in a burnt orange glow, in perfect simpatico with the mood and atmosphere of the song.
Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits have already received a number of award nominations and supported acts such as Jason Isbell, Eilen Jewell and William Crighton and tonight (March 24th) they kick off a run of dates across NSW, SA and VIC, beginning in Sydney at the Mother Hen Touring 10th Birthday Party at The Golden Barley.
