ALBUM REVIEW: Patrick Wilson – It’ll Be Alright

Patrick Wilson is something of a go-to figure on the Melbourne scene, often found behind the drums for acts such as Georgia State Line, Ben Mastwyk and Dan Brodie. On his debut album It’ll Be Alright it turns out he’s something of a consummate artist in his own right.

It’s an album that swings from the high and lonesome to melodic country rock, intimate and direct (the title track) to ornate and baroque (‘Don’t Hurry’). Wilson’s writing and singing are the glue that holds it all together. At times reminiscent of Marlon Williams, his sweet ache of a voice swings and soars.

Check out the poetic rock ’n’ roll of ‘Coffee Song’ and the undeniable chorus of ‘Here Comes Another One’ for two examples of the quality on offer right across the album.
