HANA & JESSIE-LEE’S BAD HABITS RELEASE NEW ALBUM AND ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES

Naarm (Melbourne) based alt-country duo Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits release their second album Say What You Mean today on vinyl, CD and digitally. The release is followed by a 15 date tour across four states during May/June 2024.

Recorded by Alex O’Gorman (Angie McMahon, Big Smoke) at his studio in Pakenham, the 11-track album Say What You Mean features lead singles, Arrowhead’, ‘Tallest Of Tales‘ and ‘Paper Boats‘.

In premiering the video clip for ‘Arrowhead‘ I wrote: “Hana’s voice has that wonderfully lived-in, aching quality, dreamily drifting somewhere between country, soul and the blues as she sings of unexpectedly tumbling head over heels for someone out of the blue, and the rearrangement of internal structures to allow that person in. Next to her, Jessie-Lee’s consummate guitar playing shimmers and twangs, jangles and soars. From gentle strumming to a vibrant electric solo it’s a showcase of how to make a mark as a player and still serve the song.”

For the video premiere of ‘The Tallest of Tales‘ I said: “Hana’s voice possessing the perfect balance of ache, twang and crackle. She’s one part country, one part bluesy soul and it serves the song so well. Jessie-Lee’s guitar acts as a warm and shimmering six string counterpoint before embarking on an understated rock leaning solo that winds its way gloriously beneath the fine rhythm section.”

Hana and Jessie-Lee as a pair have been playing music together for close to ten years and this new record sees them superbly backed by some of Melbourne’s finest in Tommy Brooks (bass, slide, pedal steel) & Patrick Wilson (drums & percussion), who make up the core of the Bad Habits rhythm section. Special guests Kate Alexander (backing vocals), Jordie Gilmour (drums), Joe Cope (keys) and Norwood (backing vocals) also appear.
