VIDEO PREMIERE: Michael Waugh – Beauty & Truth

Australian singer-songwriter Michael Waugh takes an honest and unflinching look at a past relationship on ‘Beauty & Truth‘, the latest single (out tomorrow) and title track from his new album which will be released on June 21st on vinyl/CD/streaming via Compass Bros Records.

Tracked with a live band in the studio of his long-time producer Shane Nicholson, the song shines a spotlight on Waugh’s lyrics as he sings a confession, an apology a letting-go of sorts. The music rises and falls, perfectly mirroring Waugh’s emotions and compelling delivery.

At the time that I was working on it, I wasn’t able to complete it because I wasn’t ready to be completely honest with myself or the world”, says Waugh. “I was holding on to a version of myself that I thought that I needed to be. It was a like a suit that didn’t fit me, and I swam around in someone else’s clothes. This is about the pain of having to be honest with someone that you love. It’s also about letting someone go with love. I don’t want to hold on to any bitterness about who I was. Nor do I want to make excuses for the mistakes that I’ve made. This is just about trying to put out into the world a message of love and healing, and hope for beauty and truth”.

In the stark and powerful video clip, Waugh captures the essence of the song, those raw emotions and memories laid out with an unfiltered directness. “I wanted to lay myself bare in this clip:  just me and the camera,” explains Waugh. “The song is about ugly truths and the search for beauty. It felt right to strip back to just an honest performance in front of the camera. This song is about letting go with love.”
