VIDEO PREMIERE: Jesse Lawrance – Your Way Of Leaving

“Is love still breathing or is this your way of leaving…”

There’s been a great run of fantastic classic-sounding male voices making strides on the local country/Americana scene over the last year or two. I’m talking about the likes of Bud Rokesky and William Alexander, and now you can add the impressive voice and songwriting of Castlemaine VIC artist Jesse Lawrance (The Goodtime Medicine Band, Bon Tons).

Over some fine, picked & strummed, acoustic guitar, Lawrance dials into a country and folk sound that’s raw and intimate, a kind of observational relationship song that a hero like Guy Clark might write. ‘Your Way Of Leaving‘ is one of those songs that succeeds beautifully as a ‘time & place’ vignette,  a poignant reflection on the painful reality of a relationship unravelling.

“When I was a kid, we used to drive everywhere in this old Chrysler my father had, listening to a tape of Guy Clark. There was a whole world inside that cassette—fully formed characters who lived and breathed and died in those songs. I think that really opened my mind to what songwriting could be.”

The video clip, filmed and directed by Fred Farquhar, is Lawrence performing direct to camera, conveying the heartfelt simplicity of a song where each and every line counts and is delivered with gravitas and sincerity via Lawrance’s compelling baritone voice.

You can listen, like and share the single on your streaming service of choice HERE. Most importantly, get out and catch Lawrance live around the Castlemaine and Melbourne area.
