Lost Ragas debut album Phantom Ride (2013) crept on me slowly and it wasn’t until I saw them play it live that it really hit home how great their songs are and what a damn fine group of musicians they are. Fast forward to this week and the Melbourne band have released the first track from their new album Trans Atlantic Highway. ‘Marijuana Mornings’ (written by pedal steel player Shane Reilly) is a beautiful country song that sounds like Beck and Wilco jamming a Willie Nelson or Guy Clark ballad in a sweet lovesick haze. The pedal steel sings and hangs in the air with classic country grace while Matt Walker delivers one of his finest vocals. Based on this first single Trans Atlantic Highway is shaping up to be a great record.
