After a successful run of East Coast solo dates Davey Craddock has released a new single from his forthcoming debut album. Girls Like Fires continues the soulful country sound he’s established but this one has a breezy drifting feel to it. It’s yacht rock in the best sense, in a similar direction to what Dawes have been trying to achieve but this is far superior. It balances sweet melancholy with catchy backing vocals, some great playing, particularly the drumming of Todd Pickett, as well as a great lyrical turns such as:
“This is how girls light fires, rubbing sticks and sparking wires – This is how girls light fires, jerry cans and well placed lighters.”
Craddock will be playing solo shows in Victoria through July and August.
