Heartbreaker Sessions rolls around again this Sunday night in Sydney and Darren and I continue to bring you a fine selection of live performances, Americana DJs coupled with the great food, drinks and relaxed vibe of Freda’s.
This week we have two special international guests. This will be your last chance to see Leo Rondeau (Austin, TX) in Sydney on this tour. He’s been touring Australia for the last few weeks and getting rave reviews. We’re equally as excited to have expat Kiwi Skyscraper Stan of Skyscraper Stan and the Commission Flats on the bill. He has caught the ears of plenty of country, folk and rock n roll fans over the last year or so.

LEO RONDEAU (USA)
Rounding out the Sydney leg of his Australian tour with a solo set at Heartbreaker Sessions is Leo Rondeau. Hailing from Austin, Texas his story began in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota where Rondeau grew up surrounded by country music listeners and pickers spanning three generations. A child of the rural American west and owning family lineage within the Turtle Mountain band of the Chippewa Indian tribe, his own history and worldview are engrained in the lines of his songs.
In his writing, Rondeau has been heavily influenced by the dolorous and at times bleak illustrations of Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers and Townes Van Zandt. His marked presence within the scenes of his stories is even reminiscent of early Tom Waits tunes in their somber appreciation of the darker realities of life.
SKYSCRAPER STAN (NZ)
From the suburbs of Auckland, NZ to Sydney (via Melbourne), Stan Woodhouse is a troubadour who follows his muse. He can be found leading his band The Commission Flats through loose-hinged rock ‘n’ roll or performing his largely autobiographical folk and country songs solo. Equal parts melancholic and witty, Stan’s music has a timeless quality built on fine guitar playing and a voice that can howl like Jerry Lee Lewis and croon like Cohen.
