Halfway are set to return in 2018 with a brand new album, their sixth, and this week they release the first single from it, ‘Crescent Lagoon’. It’s a texturally rich track that is wistful and melancholic, riding on a strong rhythm and culminating in a lush, swelling chorus.
The new album is a send-off for John’s dad (John Busby Snr) who died in 2016 from throat cancer. ‘Crescent Lagoon’ is a suburb in West Rockhampton. He was born there and though he moved around a lot, he eventually died there. The first single is about place, belonging somewhere, even if it isn’t the best place in the world.
