A swampy shimmer underlies acoustic guitar and the wonderful voice of Ben Mitchell as he sings of ignoring the things you can’t control in life and giving into the flow and destiny of existence. It’s a simple song musically – and I mean that in the best possible way. The elements are all there, reduced to their essential components of rhythm, mood and tone. His voice is the real drawcard though. Warm and yearning, with just that right amount of ache and sweet serenade. Soulful country folk.
‘You Can’t Fight That’ comes from his new album Slow Is The New Fast, co-produced by Matt Walker, which is out now.
