Melbourne songwriter Sunset Stranger (Stephen E. Stanisic) has a brand new single, the final one ahead of the digital, CD and limited vinyl release of his new sophomore album Your Home Town on Friday September 4th.
Previously recording under the name Eddie Nuardo, Stanisic has proven he’s a consummate songwriter and player, bringing an authentic country, folk and cosmic Americana sound to his songs. Seamlessly blending finger-style acoustic guitar and the sound of an electric alt-country band, his songs are brimming with melodies, both heartworn and heavenly, and right across the new album there’s a range of mood, texture and storytelling in the songs that mark this as one of the finest Australian Americana releases of 2020.
‘Verses of Dirt’ is a country noir narrative about a traumatised soldier recalling a forgotten town in a nameless war. Built on open-tuned acoustic guitar picking, bowed double bass and pulsing drums, the layered harmonies and tropical nightmare slide add to the track’s haunted atmosphere.
Your Home Town was recorded by Myles Mumford at Rolling Stock Recording Rooms, and features Pete Fidler (electric guitar, lap steel), Luke Richardson (electric and double bass), Helena Plazza (harmony vocals) and Nathan Power (drums), with guest appearances from David Bramble (piano), and Craig Woodward (fiddle).
