Sam Newton returns with his first single since the release of his 2018 album Stare Into The Dark. Since then he’s built up his own home studio and ‘Ground Me’ is one of the first results of that endeavour.
As has become Newton’s signature sound, a widescreen intimacy casts a warm and resonant shadow across the song as themes of finding one’s emotional centre and the importance of support and reaching out to others weave their way through the sparse and elegant sonic landscape. A weeping pedal steel tugs on the heartstrings as keys, theremin and a slow sway of an acoustic guitar guide the listener. There’s a touch of the dreamy mood of Daniel Lanois’ production – taking the song into an interesting space, adjacent to traditional country and folk.
