We’ve had some great new songs and videos to premiere of late and that continues today with the clip for ‘Yellowstone’, the excellent new single from Ernest Aines.
Aines is a singer-songwriter from Melbourne who released his first EP, Already Found, in 2019 before extensively touring the USA, Japan, Canada, Germany and Brazil and writing and recording his forthcoming debut album Spiral Bound.
‘Yellowstone‘ is the second taste of the album, following the single ‘So Far’, and was inspired by a David Attenborough documentary about the park and its stunning beauty which Aines says “struck him like a spiritual awakening.” The video captures that imagery on an impressive scale while the song itself spreads its wings as a hypnotic blues and folk mantra, built on foot-stomping, heavily rhythmic percussion and guitars that spiral and howl. Aines has an emotive vocal delivery that, on this song, sits somewhere between Iron and Wine, Ray LaMontagne and The Black Keys.
Recording Yellowstone was a marathon over two years. Ernest started off in a bedroom studio at home in the lockdown of 2020 and then layers were added progressively, grabbing studio time in between lockdowns, delays, cancellations and complicated by the fact that Ernest had to move seven times.
