NEW MUSIC: Wild Earp & the Free for Alls – Don’t Play the Waltz at the California Clipper

This new track form Wild Earp & The Free for Alls, which pays homage to their home base, the California Clipper Lounge, is all about the rhythm and groove. Total head-nodding, line-dancing good times abound as the tune shimmies across the dance floor.

“Wild Earp & The Free for Alls played every month for 4 years at the California Clipper Lounge, so this place really does feel like our home base. We’ve always played for a packed house and super-receptive crowds there who get really into the music (as you’ll see from the video). Everyone gets turned up and there are always hoots and hollers after every song. However, we noticed that when we played songs in 3/4, originals or classic covers, the response was always less enthusiastic than expected. We thought this was a pretty funny premise for a song. The video is meant to convey our love for the venue, as well as the tongue-in-cheek humor in the song. Unfortunately, the venue closed permanently last month due to the COVID economic crisis, so the song and video have become an homage to the place that’s been so formative for us over the years.”

The description of Wild Earp describes him as thus… With a respectful nod to the old masters and a defiant scoff at the purists, Earp croons his country tunes, and mixes those pensive trail songs with jumping rockabilly, spirited bluegrass, rowdy rock, and sometimes ventures into the dark corners of folk. His lyrics thread traditional tales of heartache, sinful living, and celebration seamlessly with social commentary and absurdism. There’s wit, wisdom, woe, and a wild streak that keeps you guessing.
