Daniel Young is a songwriter out of Salt Lake City, Utah who has been plying his craft for two decades now. It shows too. ‘Hold You Tighter’ is one of those effortless delights that gently tumbles out the speakers on the back of warm and mellifluous melodies, a voice inhabited by just the right amount of sweetness and weariness and guitars that dip, spark and dovetail beautifully.
Young covers plenty of ground on his recordings, liner notes list him as singing plus 6 & 12 string acoustic guitars, electric guitar, lap steel, synth, percussion and harmonica.
The song is a split single release with ‘If I Wait‘ and they follow his March, 2020 album Television Static, a record that branches out into some cosmic desert country-rock territory. His bio decribes the sound of the album as a “bleary blend of country, rock & roll, and greasy blues, augmented by cosmic Dead-style extended jams, Burrito-worthy grooves, and West Coast melodicism.” It’s a killer mix too. Earlier in the year we shared the 11 minute song ‘Pretty Soon Ain’t Enough (To Get You Off My Mind)‘ from the album.
