The meeting of musical minds is one of the real joys of collaborative projects and there seems to be more and more of them happening in these times we’re living in. On the local Sydney scene, songwriter/musician/producer Michael Carpenter has joined up with the guitar-slingin’ dream team of The Banks Brothers (Zane – guitar, Jy-Perry – pedal steel) for this sweet-swingin’ slice of honky tonk that is ‘There’s No One Like You‘.
The track follows their debut single ‘Honky Tonker‘ which which was playlisted on ABC Country and CMT, and is described by its writer, Carpenter, as a broken hearted love song. He explains that the title sets up a song of devotion, but the twist in the tail reveals a sadness and loss of both parties in a relationship. “The song was written about a friend’s situation. As devoted as he was, he knew there was no future. But the song can be sung from both sides of the broken relationship…”
The video clip finds them in one of Sydney’s finest clothing establishments, Route 66, in their new location in Enmore. Carpenter says “we’re very aware that this music we’re making has an authenticity about it, and that comes from a place of genuine love for it stylistically. This is reflected in what we wear every day of our lives. So it made sense to film it in a place that shares the same aesthetic!” In fact, the band originally wanted to film the video for debut single ‘Honky Tonker’ at Route 66, but isolation made it impossible.”
‘There’s No One Like You’ is the second single for Michael Carpenter and The Banks Brothers, released through Big Radio Records/Social Family Records.
