Straight outta Perth comes Albert Loss and his loping, heartache of a song, ‘Papunya Road’, draped in pedal steel and banjo. There’s country and folk in the mix as he sings of the ups and downs of fatherhood, evoking the sprawling beauty of the red centre and the tenderness of family.
There’s a perfect tumble and swing in the sound Albert and band have created. There’s the organic loose vibe of The Band in there but it’s his laconic twang and way of chewing vowels into appealing and interesting shapes that draws in the listener.
Albert is one of the seemingly many new signings to the fledgling label Heartsville Music Group, based in Sydney.
