Ontario songwriter David James Allen has hit a wonderfully rich and immersive psychedelic folk-rock sound on this new song. There’s some Devendra Banhart weird wistfulness, backed by a burbling funk-lite rhythm section and some dovetailing vocals that deal in the theme of companionship and a deep romance between two people; one of them is dying while their partner continues to live.

‘Tough Love’ comes from his forthcoming album Radiations, the followup to his 2017 debut album When The Demons Come. Based on ‘Tough Love’ and the other pre-release tracks from the album on his Bandcamp page, the record promises to be a lush journey into folk and Canadian Americana music.
