Ripper of a track from Sydney, yet another top shelf release from the Evening Records crew. K. Walsh (Kevin to his mum) treads a finely balanced line between country and the interesting side of rock music. There are strummed electric guitars and walking bass lines mingling with handclaps, psych guitar sounds and most rewardingly, some delectable vocal melodies.
In 2019 Walsh flew to Nashville to record an EP, only to be cut short when the covid beast reared its ugly head. Thankfully we got this gem out of that mess. The overall result is like Daniel Romano toughening up in a late night cosmic country session with The Replacements. Darkly comic asides juxtapose with a deadpan Jonathan Richman delivery that cuts loose for a rousing chorus for the ages.
